I could sit here and give you statistics about dogs who are thrown away every day in our country. But, as photographers, we know there’s more power in an image than in words. Pictures elicit emotions, emotions produce thoughts, thoughts become ideas, and before you know it you’ve created something.
Or adopted a dog … who will lower your blood pressure, stand by you no matter how badly you’ve screwed up, keep you warm in winter, be lazy with you in summer, protect you from real and perceived threats, love you unconditionally and with a fervor I dare say you’ve never felt before.
Puppy Love’s good intent is for both dogs and photographers – to help support rescue organizations who do the heavy lifting with our cold hard cash and publicity, and to provide a great venue for photographers to showcase their work. Join us in helping this happen!
Puppy Love will celebrate its Tenth Anniversary in 2017. We are a charity photography exhibition where all profits benefit rescue dogs through the two charities below.
CoCo’s Cupboard, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit humane society. Our goal is to help reduce the number of abandoned pets in Pike County, one of many Georgia counties with no animal control.
Coco’s Cupboard, Inc is run by volunteers and funded by donations. We offer a low cost spay / neuter program and pet food pantry for those in need. We have limited space for fosters and welcome new foster homes!
Healing4Heroes™ is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting our military service members and veterans lead healthy, productive lives. Our objective is to connect wounded service members, as well as those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury, with A.D.A compliant service dogs.
Healing4Heroes™ has dual purposes in that it serves the community by helping military personnel and veterans as well as local animal shelters by rescuing suitable dogs. Our military personnel and veterans move forward, living more productive lives after being wounded both physically and/or mentally with the assistance of service animals. The lives of unwanted shelter dogs are saved by becoming trained service companions. Service dogs are free of charge to the veteran.
After receiving her MFA at Pratt Institute and working in a NY photo gallery, Amy returned to her beloved South and became Gallery Director for Fay Gold Gallery in Atlanta, a position she held for seven years. She began her career as Executive Director of Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP) in 2007. Every October, ACP produces the largest annual, community-oriented photography festival in the United States. When outside festival season, Amy advises collectors, curates exhibitions, judges photo competitions and consults on a vast array of photography-related projects.
Puppy Love Staff:
That’s me. I founded Puppy Love ten years ago and oversaw the operations for the first five years. I’m the publisher of South x Southeast Photomagazine, Director of South x Southeast Workshops, South x Southeast Shop, and South x Southeast Exhibitions. I live on my family farm and have 5 rescue dogs.
Donna was kind enough to take over the operations of Puppy Love 5 years ago when my life became too full to juggle it all. She is, hands down, the most organized woman I’ve ever known and, under her care, Puppy Love grew to become the successful charity it is today. I’m so proud Donna has agreed to continue sharing her support and hard work. Donna is a long-time dog lover and trainer.
Together we hope to make it an event you will all look forward to contributing to each year.
